CBD Topicals: Why Would I Put CBD on my Skin, and Could it Help with my Arthritis?

CBD topical application is considered the latest breakthrough in managing joint pain and inflammation. Together with its highly effective pain relieving properties, it possesses systemic absorption as well. ⁣

⁣CBD is absorbed through the skin where it binds to the body’s own CB2 receptors. Once it connects with these receptors, CBD has a pain relieving and anti- inflammatory effect on the body at the site of application.⁣ More scientific research on the role of CBD in inflammatory processes in the body in another blog post here.

While CBD is popping up in many topical products, it’s not the only phyto-chemical within the cannabis plant to pay attention to. There are a lot of beneficial cannabinoids within cannabis, and our body has an entire system that regulates them. All of this comes into play when you slather the plant’s broad or full spectrum extracts on your skin.⁣ For example, THC has been shown to be 20 times more anti-inflammatory than aspirin and 2 times more anti-inflammatory than hydrocortisone.

The spectrum of cannabinoids work in concert more efficiently and effectively on these receptors than one on its own—hence it’s good to look for the whole plant’s extract infused with the plant’s helpful terpenes such as our True Natural Oils lotion or Golden Bee Hemp Pain Salve available here.

Topical CBD was also found effective in alleviating the symptoms of the following conditions: oxidative stress on dermal cells, skin conditions characterized by inflammation and keratin disorders, such as eczema or atopic dermatitis, wound healing, pain & muscle relief, itch (pruritis), Acne/Seborrhea, modulation of hair growth, skin & hair pigmentation, oral care, and other skin disorders such as antibiotic-resistant skin infections, cutaneous malignancies such as Melanoma, and Psoriatic Plaques.

In terms of Arthriits, one animal study from the European Journal of Pain reports CBD “significantly reduced” joint swelling/inflammation and pain from to arthritis when applied to skin. Additionally, CBD it is even being recommended by the Arthritis Foundation.

Our True Fusion Ingestible tincture was formulated by our Research & Product Development Specialist (also a pharmacist), Robin, specifically for her own arthritis pain. If you are considering supplementing internally with CBD like she does daily for her chronic pain, I would take a look at that product for daily maintenance. Also take a look at the numerous reviews about how our lab-tested formula have helped with Arthritis Pain. CBD has definitely changed the quality of life for Robin & many others! Here’s one example of an amazing review we received in regards to Arthritis Pain:

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in 2018, but recently correctly diagnosed with Inflammatory OA, which causes pain and inflammation specific to the finger joints. Basically my fingers hurt all day. I put Golden Bee on my finger joints every morning and night to relieve the pain. Normal life gets in the way sometimes, and I’ll forget to put it in on the morning…and then my finger joints hurt throughout the day! All I know is this works and allows me to use my hands free of pain.

Your product is outstanding! Thank you!!

Oh and it smells great too!

in 2000, there was a study published by The Kennedy Center of Rheumatology titled, “The Nonpsychoactive Cannabis Constituent Cannabidiol is an Cral Anti-arthritic Therapeutic in Murine Collagen-induced Arthritis”. The study ends by summarizing, “all of this suggests that CBD may be valuable in the treatment of other chronic inflammatory diseases as well.”

What’s even better, this study also reports that “prolonged treatment with CBD does not induce tolerance, a phenomenon often observed by cannabinoids”. This means that in contrast to many Pharmaceuticals, you will not develop a tolerance, or a reduction in efficacy as you use Cannabinoids in the treatment of your ailments.

It brings me much joy to develop formulas with my team that promise healing potential & relief, and to bring education about Cannabis, especially in a healthcare system funded by Pharmaceutical companies making this information is not readily available everywhere, and contributing to the confusion & bias. We can see here that that topical CBD is a potential therapy for a range of medical conditions. With the first cannabis-derived medicine already approved by the FDA, and the first combination CBD:THC medicine approved by Health Canada, I’m very excited to see how society integrates cannabis into the future of mainstream medicine.
